Job summary

Rumpke is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, and loaders at our Columbus, IN facility. The role includes performing pre-trip/post-trip inspections, routine maintenance, and on-site earth moving and site development tasks.

You will interact with customers and team members while following local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years experience operating heavy equipment such as an excavator, dozer, backhoe, or off-road truck.
• Must pass a written and operational test to be certified to operate each piece of heavy equipment.
• Hazardous waste management training must be completed within six months of employment, with a yearly review.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently (bulldozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, loaders) per regulations and policies.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document results.
• Perform routine maintenance (lubrication, fueling, cleaning) and monitor equipment for downtime.
• Support site work including earth moving, landscaping, snow removal, and related tasks.
• Interact professionally with internal and external customers and maintain safe work practices.
