Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a heavy equipment operator to safely operate excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and related machinery at landfill and transfer sites in Michigan.

The role includes bale loading, daily inspections, fluid checks, and adherence to safety policies while coordinating with field and office teams. The candidate should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, speak and understand English, and obtain any necessary certifications for site operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED desired, but not required.
• Completion of forklift certification.
• Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment to bale and load waste or materials into trailers.
• Perform daily inspections and maintenance checks on equipment.
• Grease and lubricate equipment; check and top up fluids daily.
• Steer and operate listed heavy equipment at the site, using controls as needed.
• Substitute for other operators as needed.
• Clean debris from equipment tracks and gear daily or as required.
• Communicate work activities and priorities via two-way radio.
• Adhere to all laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Maintain cleanliness of grounds and facility.
• Attend safety and branch meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
