Summary

The Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical) supports and manages telehealth operations. Typically stationed at a clinical care delivery site such as a VA Medical Center, CBOC, or VA Outreach Clinic.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
• Experience: One year in a healthcare field demonstrating ability to perform or understand the work, such as medical or clinical assistant, technician, or health technician.
• OR Education: Four years of college above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with relevant courses.
• OR Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent experience and education qualifying for entry level.
• Examples include: Six months healthcare experience plus two years of relevant coursework; an associate's degree in a related field; or six months healthcare experience plus military healthcare technician training.
• May qualify under the Grandfathering Provision if currently employed in VA in this occupation and meeting specific criteria.

Grade Determinations:

• GS-5 (Entry Level): Meets basic requirements.
• GS-6 (Full Performance Level): At least one year of experience equivalent to GS-5, with duties such as scheduling telehealth appointments, documenting patient information, preparing telehealth rooms, establishing video connections, monitoring schedules, administering patient satisfaction surveys, and maintaining equipment. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities include proficiency with computer systems, communication, guidance provision, planning, interpreting instructions, clinical policies, and telehealth technologies.

Preferred Experience: Home Telehealth, Remote Patient Monitoring, Electronic Health Records, office experience, and record management.Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged standing, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, stretching, lifting moderately heavy items.
• Requires agility and dexterity; travel between VA and non-VA sites may be necessary.

Duties:

This entry-level position involves managing telehealth services, preparing clinical environments, establishing and maintaining video connections, capturing and transmitting clinical data, ensuring safety and privacy, and coordinating technology maintenance.
