Job summary

BB&E is seeking an on-site Hazardous Waste Coordinator for NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX to oversee regulated and hazardous waste streams. Responsibilities include labeling, pickup, on-site transport, waste characterization, sampling, packaging, and data tracking from cradle-to-grave.

The role requires 24-hour HAZWOPER training, RCRA Haz Waste Certification, and DOT HazMat Shipping/Storage. Experience with NASA or federal agencies is highly desirable. Houston experience is required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as Hazardous Waste Coordinator
• Experience in Houston or NASA/federal agency preferred
• Experience tracking data in Excel and managing multiple waste streams
• Ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement comprehensive hazardous waste programs per 40 CFR Parts 260-268, 279 and 761
• Manage self-lab-pack operations, waste profile approvals, and off-site shipments
• Evaluate environmental liability and materials of concern for NASA property
• Implement hazardous materials and waste information systems across varied environments
• Prepare permit renewals and maintain waste management records; ensure cradle-to-grave data tracking
• Develop and maintain Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans for Central Accumulation Areas
• Conduct hazardous waste characterization sampling and analysis
• Perform weekly inspections of CAAs and annual inspections of SAAs/WCS
• Provide annual HazWaste Training updates and on-the-job training
• Arrange for all waste pickups and coordinate with TSDFs for offsite disposal
