Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D Scanning Technician to plan and execute handheld scans of rebar mats, embeds, pipes, beams, and machine parts. You will process data in Artec Studio, deliver meshes and scan-to-CAD files, and support technical reporting on-site and in the office.

You will travel to regional hubs, build scan-to-CAD solids, and coordinate safety and access with site teams. Training is provided, and certifications may be sponsored by the company.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld scanner on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable software for mesh processing.
• Ability to read structural or fabrication drawings and CAD files.
• Comfort on active construction sites and outdoors; ability to lift/carry equipment.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record and willingness to travel.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD or metrology reporting is a plus.
• ACI/ICC/NI CET certifications a plus; company sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of diverse structures and components.
• Control drift with reference features and ensure capture completeness on site.
• Process scans in Artec Studio and export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD formats.
• Produce deviation maps, reports, and anchor bolt coordinates vs drawings.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering as needed.
• Document capture procedures and maintain chain-of-custody for forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, safety, and travel with superintendents.
• Travel to regional hubs; support multiple projects across plants and shops.
