Job summary

Construction Materials Testing is seeking a skilled 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo etc.), capture on site, and deliver scan-to-CAD deliverables for diverse projects from rebar mats to machine parts.

You will work with Artec Studio, verify data on site, and produce meshes, color maps, and reports; occasional travel to regional hubs and plants is required, with training and certification sponsorship offered.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; bring examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, or Revit) and ability to read structural/fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape-measure backbones, and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
