Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on real projects, process data in Artec Studio, and deliver scan-to-CAD files for client use. You will scan rebar, embeds, pipes, and machine parts on active sites, validate data on-site, and generate reports and meshes for downstream engineers.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; provide examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; perform mesh cleanup, registration, export.
• Familiarity with CAD drawings and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment and travel.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record; able to travel and fly with equipment.
• Certifications such as ACI or ICC are a plus and sponsor them.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and other structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD.
• Produce deviation maps, reports, and coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
