Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on varied site projects, from rebar embeds to pipe spools, and to deliver ready-to-use meshes and CAD-ready files. You will process data with Artec Studio and coordinate safety and access on construction sites.

You’ll build scan-to-CAD solids and generate reports, while maintaining calibration records and ensuring data integrity across deliverables. Overtime and travel are expected as projects demand.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld scanner (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider or equivalent) on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
• Able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors on active construction sites.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record; ability to travel with equipment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
