Job summary

YMCA of Catawba Valley is seeking a Group Leader to supervise a cohort of children in before/after school and summer programs. You will implement engaging activities, maintain a safe environment, and foster positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities include planning activities, supervising for safety, and collaborating with coordinators to support program goals. This role emphasizes teamwork, record keeping, and ongoing staff development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; EDU 119 preferred.
• Experience with children in a group setting preferred.
• Knowledge of child development principles and safety practices.
• Ability to plan engaging and age-appropriate activities.
• Good organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute educational, recreational, and enrichment activities for children.
• Supervise children to ensure safety and well‑being.
• Enforce program rules and maintain a positive, safe environment.
• Build positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.
• Communicate with the program coordinator about participation and progress.
• Assist in setup and cleanup of materials and spaces.
• Support monthly staff meetings and training.
