Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Substation Engineer Intern to support the Grid team in designing and upgrading transmission, substation, and energy storage projects. You will work with senior engineers on calculations, specifications, and reports while gaining exposure to AI-enabled design and modern engineering tools.

The role emphasizes hands-on learning in power systems, 3D modeling, and design documentation, with a start target in summer 2027.

Qualifications

• Active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree with strong preference in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Chemical Engineering; coursework incl. Coding, 3D Modeling/Design, and experience with agentic AI.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles for producing technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models; ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer aid.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Self-starter, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal direction.
• Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
• Work on project reporting tasks such as tracking progress and data.
• Be involved in power designs and procurement specifications for major electrical equipment and installation services.
