Job summary

ABB's Distribution Solutions Division seeks a Senior Technical Business Developer to expand the Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. The role is remote, with preferred locations Cary, NC or Houston, TX, reporting to the Product Marketing Director and Global Portfolio Management.

You will drive market penetration, lead technical presales activities, and influence standards while building partnerships to evolve offerings such as SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.
• Ability to travel up to 30% - domestic and international - may be required.

• Market strategy leadership: Drive U.S. growth by identifying new utility/industrial automation opportunities.
• Technical engagement: Act as grid automation SME and lead presales activities.
• Standards influence: Contribute to vPAC and IEEE working groups.
• Ecosystem & innovation: Build strategic partnerships and evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
