Job summary

ABB's Distribution Solutions Division seeks a Senior Technical Business Developer to lead the expansion of our Grid Automation portfolio in the U.S. market.

This role blends advanced grid technologies with a focused market penetration strategy, driving growth through utility customer and partner engagement, stakeholder intelligence, and solution development. This remote position allows candidates across the US, with preference for Cary, NC or Houston, TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in technical business development, preferably in grid automation or power systems.
• Deep understanding of U.S. utility market dynamics, standards (IEEE, IEC 61850), and digital substation architectures.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with SaaS or subscription-based business models in the energy sector.
• Familiarity with DERMS, DLR, and network state estimation technologies.
• Ability to travel up to 30% - domestic and international - may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead market strategy for the U.S. grid automation portfolio.
• Lead presales technical activities and support solution design across architectures and integration workflows.
• Contribute to IEEE/IEC standard efforts and represent ABB in industry groups.
• Build strategic partnerships and channel field insights to evolve offerings like SSC600, SMU600, and CogniEN.
