Job summary

Roanoke-Chowan Community College is seeking an Advisor to assist students in overcoming obstacles to academic success and to provide proactive support through the Watermark Insight system. You will guide students in choosing majors, accessing campus, online, and community resources, and conducting regular advising sessions.

The role requires strong communication, data reporting, confidentiality, and the ability to multitask in a college setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• One year of relevant experience working with disadvantaged and at-risk students.
• Knowledgeable of retention and academic strategies, and financial literacy.
• Strong computer skills with a focus on office applications.
• Ability to multitask and to perform detailed tasks accurately.
• Two or more years of experience in a community college setting or educational institution.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with alleviating obstacles to academic success and provide proactive support.
• Monitor early alert system and connect students with support staff and resources.
• Develop rapport and guide students in navigating campus, online, and community resources.
• Conduct advising sessions and monitor student progress.
• Assist instructors and document counseling contacts per FERPA guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality and serve on committees as assigned.
• Perform other duties to support the TRIO Student Support Services Director and Dean of Student Services.
