Job summary

HIMSS is seeking a senior accounting leader to oversee the organization’s accounting operations and ensure timely financial close, policy enforcement, and strong internal controls. You will direct external audits, manage international entities, and partner with senior leadership on GAAP-compliant reporting.

You will mentor a team, drive system improvements (NetSuite/Concur/ADP), and maintain asset protection while guiding strategic financial decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; MS or MBA preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• At least ten years of full-time experience in industry or public accounting, including remote team management and international operations.
• Exceptional accounting and analytical skills; deadline-focused; professional ethics.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop accounting professionals.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills; able to create initiatives and manage outcomes.
• Experience using NetSuite; NetSuite experience highly preferred.
• Must reside in one of the eligible states: AL, CA, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI.

Responsibilities

• Direct the activities of the Accounting Department for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close with reconciled information for internal and external statements.
• Develop and enforce financial policies to safeguard assets.
• Manage accounts receivable aging, billings, cash receipts, and merchant accounting under Assistant Controller.
• Oversee disbursements, accounts payable, purchase orders, payroll, and payroll tax compliance.
• Ensure GAAP compliance for currency translation and foreign tax liability across international entities.
• Maintain systems and controls ensuring data integrity in financial systems.
• Lead financial system enhancements; coordinate with NetSuite, Concur, ADP and consultants on implementation plans.
• Plan and direct audit work papers and reconciliations; ensure timelines and quality.
• Advise CFO/CEO on accounting policies, financial reporting, and GAAP application.
• Improve accounting records, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for disclosures.
• Oversee fixed asset reporting and physical inventory processes.
• Mentor and develop staff through training and performance feedback.
