Job summary

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Inc. (HIMSS) is seeking an accomplished senior accounting leader to manage the organization’s accounting operations and the monthly, quarterly, and annual close with rigorous internal controls and policy enforcement.

The role directs external audits, prepares reconciled financial information for statements, and oversees global accounting activities with oversight from the Assistant Controller.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; MS or MBA preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• A minimum of ten (10) years (full-time) experience in industry or public accounting, including experience managing remote teams and with international operations.
• Exceptional accounting and analytical skills; deadline-focused; professional standard of ethics.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop accounting professionals.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills; able to create initiatives and manage outcomes.
• Demonstrable experience utilizing technology to meet financial close goals; NetSuite experience highly preferred.
• Ability to communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Direct the activities of the Accounting Department related to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and deliver reconciled financial information for internal and external statements.
• Develop and enforce financial policies to safeguard assets.
• Manage accounts receivable aging components, billings, cash receipts, and merchant accounting with oversight by the Assistant Controller.
• Oversee accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, expense reports, cash control, payroll, and payroll tax compliance with oversight by the Assistant Controller.
• Ensure GAAP compliance for currency translation and foreign tax liability across HIMSS international offices.
• Establish and maintain systems that verify the integrity of financial processes and data.
• Lead financial system enhancements and coordinate with NetSuite/Concur/ADP and consultants for project plans.
• Plan and direct timely delivery of audit work papers and reconciliations; provide QA review of financial information.
• Provide leadership to CFO/CEO on accounting policies and financial reporting.
• Improve quality and transparency of accounting records and supporting schedules.
• Direct fixed asset reporting and inventory processes.
• Mentor, coach, and develop employees with performance feedback and morale.
• Perform other related duties to support department objectives.
