Job summary

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Inc. (HIMSS) is seeking a senior accounting leader to direct the organization’s accounting operations and ensure a complete and timely financial close.

You will establish policies, manage annual audits, and supervise international entities to maintain GAAP compliance and strong internal controls. The role requires a minimum of ten years of accounting experience, CPA preferred, and proven ability to mentor a growing team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; MS or MBA preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• Ten years of full-time experience in industry or public accounting, including managing remote teams and international operations.
• Exceptional accounting and analytical skills; deadline-focused; professional ethics.
• Proven ability to mentor accounting professionals.
• Leadership and mentoring skills; able to drive initiatives and outcomes.
• Experience using NetSuite for financial close and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Direct the Accounting Department in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and deliver reconciled financial information for internal and external statements.
• Develop and enforce financial policies to safeguard assets.
• Oversee accounts receivable aging, billings, cash receipts, and merchant accounting with oversight from the Assistant Controller.
• Oversee disbursements: accounts payable, PO processing, petty cash, expense reports, payroll tax compliance with oversight from the Assistant Controller.
• Ensure GAAP compliance for currency translation and foreign tax liabilities across international offices.
• Establish and maintain systems and controls for integrity of financial data and processes.
• Lead financial system enhancements and implementations with third-party providers (e.g., NetSuite, Concur, ADP).
• Plan and direct timely audit work papers and reconciliations, ensuring quality review of interim financial information.
• Provide leadership to CFO/CEO on accounting policies and financial reporting.
• Improve transparency and quality of accounting records and schedules supporting disclosures.
• Direct fixed asset reporting and physical inventory processes.
• Mentor and develop staff through training, goal setting, and performance appraisals.
• Perform other duties contributing to department goals.
