Job summary

Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Inc. (HIMSS) seeks a strategic Chief Accounting Officer to lead the accounting operations, enforce internal controls, and deliver timely financial close.

You will oversee external audits, tax filings, and policy development to safeguard assets and ensure accurate reporting. You will direct the accounting team, guide senior management on accounting policies, and coordinate system enhancements with third-party providers to improve transparency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required or equivalent
• CPA preferred or in process
• 10+ years of experience in industry or public accounting with international exposure
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
• Experience implementing and using financial systems and controls
• Ability to operate with high ethical standards and deadlines

Responsibilities

• Direct the Accounting Department for monthly, quarterly, and annual close and provide reconciled information for statements.
• Develop and enforce financial policies to safeguard assets.
• Manage accounts receivable activities including billing, cash receipts, and merchant processing with supervision.
• Oversee accounts payable, POs, petty cash, expenses, payroll processing, and tax compliance with supervision.
• Ensure GAAP compliance for currency translation and foreign tax liability across international entities.
• Maintain financial systems and data integrity; lead system enhancements and implementations (e.g., NetSuite, Concur, ADP).
• Coordinate audit work papers and reconciliations; support annual audits and tax filings.
• Provide guidance to executive leadership on GAAP, reporting, and disclosures.
