Job summary

Hurt & Proffitt is seeking a geotechnical project engineer or project geologist with four to six years of relevant experience to support our geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing practice in our Lynchburg office. This role emphasizes technical execution, subsurface investigations, and coordinated field efforts across diverse projects.

The selected candidate will work with engineers, geologists, laboratory staff, and field technicians, with a clear path toward project

Qualifications

  • Four to six years of geotechnical engineering or geology experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, geology, or related field.
  • PE or PG licensure or eligibility within ~12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate subsurface investigations with project managers and field teams.
  • Lead field investigations, classify soil/rock cores, and prepare boring logs.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing and interpret results for engineering evaluations.
  • Develop geotechnical reports with practical recommendations for foundations and earthwork.
  • Support construction-phase services and client coordination with project teams.
