Job summary

Hurt & Proffitt seeks a geotechnical project engineer or project geologist with 4–6 years of relevant experience for its Lynchburg area practice. You will plan subsurface investigations, manage fieldwork, and contribute to technical reporting and project coordination across commercial and transportation projects.

The role emphasizes technical execution with growth toward project management, mentorship of staff, and client interaction, in a collaborative, locally focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, geology, or closely related field.
  • Four to six years of geotechnical engineering or engineering geology experience.
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist licensure (PE/PG).
  • Experience planning or performing subsurface investigations and coordinating field and lab testing.
  • Experience interpreting field and lab data and developing soil/rock parameters.
  • Ability to prepare organized, accurate technical reports under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate subsurface investigations with project managers.
  • Lead field investigations and log boring data.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing and interpret results.
  • Perform geotechnical calculations for foundations, slopes, pavements.
  • Develop geotechnical engineering reports and recommendations.
  • Support project managers with field coordination and client communication.
