Job summary

Schnabel is seeking a temporary full-time Civil Engineering Intern to support our geotechnical, geostructural, tunnel, and dam projects. The role focuses on broadening practical knowledge under supervision of senior engineers from May through August 2027, with a mix of field observations, testing, and CAD/GIS work.

Eligible students must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program, with strong communication skills and a willingness to perform both field and office tasks.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s program.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work.
• Desire to work outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical field work including observing subsurface exploration, using GPS to layout borings, and performing infiltration testing
• Perform construction observation and materials testing at construction sites
• Perform laboratory testing
• Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS
• Provide support to engineers on preparing geotechnical proposals and reports
• Some travel may be required
