Job summary

Schnabel is seeking a temporary full-time Civil Engineering intern to support field and office tasks from May through August 2027. The role emphasizes applying professional principles to real problems under supervision of senior engineers.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in ABET-accredited programs, with strong communication skills, teamwork, and a willingness to work outdoors, with some travel expected.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s program.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and computer literacy.
• Ability to work with direction as part of a team.
• Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work.
• Desire and willingness to work outdoors.
• Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical field work: observe subsurface exploration, use GPS to lay out borings, and perform infiltration testing.
• Conduct construction observation and materials testing at sites.
• Perform laboratory testing.
• Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS.
• Provide support to engineers on geotechnical proposals and reports.
• Some travel may be required.
