Job summary

Illumina is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex Illumina instrumentation onsite at customer sites in Atlanta, GA or Birmingham, AL.

You will build strong customer relationships, manage field service tasks, and coordinate upgrades while traveling up to 75% of the time. The role combines technical excellence with customer-focused service in a fast-growing genomics environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of related experience or an advanced degree with relevant background.
• 2–6 years of experience servicing Illumina products or similar equipment.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Biotech knowledge and familiarity with optics, robotics, electrical/electronics, and mechanical systems.
• Tech knowledge of computer hardware, Windows OS, and networking.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain Illumina platforms at customer sites.
• Troubleshoot a wide range of complex customer-reported problems.
• Manage tasks to maximize instrument uptime and customer satisfaction.
• Complete post-repair/install validation runs as required.
• Maintain SFDC case management and follow guidelines.
• Build and strengthen customer relationships; lead site meetings and metrics reviews.
• Schedule and perform equipment upgrades and installations; provide onsite training.
