Job summary

Stylus Medicine is seeking a Scientist to join the Genome Sciences & Engineering team to advance in vitro functional assessment of lead genome editors for translational and preclinical programs. The role focuses on assay development, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to accelerate next-generation gene editing therapies.

You will work with primary human cells (T cells, hepatocytes), LNP delivery, and multiple sequencing and QC approaches, contributing to discovery and platform

Qualifications

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field; or MS with 5+ years or BS with 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with LNP delivery and culturing primary cells (including, but not limited to T-cells and hepatocytes) and/or cancer cell lines.
  • Working knowledge of gene editing technologies (CRISPR nucleases, recombinases, base editors, or transcriptional effectors).
  • Experience with flow cytometry and laboratory automation platforms for cell-based screening workflows.
  • Proficiency in nucleic acid QC methods, including TapeStation, Qubit, NanoDrop, and qPCR.
  • Track record of independently generating reproducible data and performing rigorous quantitative analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, comfortable managing complex datasets and overlapping projects.
  • Strategic thinker who plans and prioritizes for scientific impact.
  • Clear, approachable communicator who makes complex concepts accessible across disciplines.
  • Collaborative mindset with a team-first attitude.
  • Decisive problem-solver who thrives amid scientific uncertainty.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute in vitro functional assays that support candidate selection and preclinical development of lead genome editors, advancing platform and program objectives.
  • Develop and optimize molecular (ddPCR, qPCR) and cytogenetic (KromaTiD, optical genome mapping) assays to measure genome editor activity, specificity, transgene copy number, TCR repertoire, and biodistribution.
  • Support genome editor engineering campaigns by running high-throughput screens in relevant cell lines, including primary human T-cells, and delivering timely, decision-quality data to guide candidate selection.
  • Troubleshoot experiments, analyze data, and translate results into actionable scientific insights.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and clearly communicate data and findings to the broader scientific team.
  • Partner across R&D to advance optimized candidates into translational and preclinical development.
