Job summary

Potbelly Sandwich Works in Houston, TX seeks a General Manager to lead our shop with a focus on guest experience, team development, and operational excellence. You will oversee P&L, scheduling, and frontline performance to deliver strong results in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of GM experience in retail or food service, hold a Food Safety Certification, and excel at communication, problem solving, and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years GM experience in a restaurant or retail environment with P&L responsibility preferred.
• Must pass Food Safety Certification; if failed twice, not eligible for Leader role.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities; strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Train, coach, and develop shop team members to realize their potential.
• Assess staff abilities and create development plans.
• Interview, select and hire great people who represent Potbelly values.
• Develop and maintain Good Vibes culture for attraction and retention.
• Effectively schedule Associates, Certified Trainers and Shift Leaders.
• Update communication board with critical shop information.
• Hold regular meetings with key shop staff.
• Delegate tasks to team and ensure high standard of execution.
• Ensure all security procedures are followed.
• Ensure back-of-house procedural standards are met.
• Count drawers and follow cash handling procedures.
• Drive local shop marketing and promotions to maximize sales.
• Control costs, variances and inventories within the shop.
• Lead local shop marketing; engage with community activities.
• Manage P&L items; spend 80-90% of time on shop floor.
