Job summary

Carvana is seeking a Safety & Security team member in Portland, OR. This boots-on-the-ground role keeps the site open, safe, and moving by patrolling gates, monitoring cameras, and enforcing safety protocols across all weather.

You will work with the Safe & Secure team to protect associates, customers, and thousands of vehicles daily. You will engage with vendors and visitors at the gate, perform safety audits, and support incident response.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years in a customer service environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• A track record of solid decision-making in a fast-moving environment.
• Ability to build relationships quickly with on-site teams and visitors.
• Ability to organize, plan and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to handle conflict in a positive, productive way.
• Familiarity with CCTV, RFID, Card Access, or other Safe & Secure technology.
• Experience supporting an OSHA / Safety Team program.
• Experience with crisis prevention and/or response plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead with a service-first mindset in every interaction.
• Be the face of Carvana at the gate for associates, vendors, and visitors.
• Communicate clearly and listen actively to signals and updates.
• Use the Unified Security Platform to monitor cameras, review footage, and investigate alerts.
• De-escalate when tensions rise and collaborate with partners.
• Run point at the gate using SAS App and RFID, enforcing ingress/egress procedures.
• Manage and document vehicle movement through inspection gates.
• Train and use first aid, CPR, and AED as needed.
• Know emergency protocols and act decisively.
• Keep the site operational in all weather and conditions.
• Drive a safety culture by audits and best practices with colleagues.
• Scan vehicles and report operational status to leadership.
