Job summary

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) seeks an NSO Apprentice to begin the path toward National Service Officer designation. You will train to represent veterans and families pursuing VA disability benefits, using on-the-job DAV programs and regular guidance from Supervisory National Service Officers.

You will learn to interview veterans, review records, and prepare documentation while advising on appeals where appropriate; relocation may be required nationwide as projects evolve.

Qualifications

• Must be a DAV member in good standing.
• Eligible for VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Service under the National MOA with DAV On-The-Job Training Program.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Acquire and maintain knowledge of laws/regulations pertaining to veterans benefits.
• Learn to conduct detailed interviews to elicit information for potential benefits.
• Review service and medical records to identify and assess claim validity.
• Assist in determining evidentiary requirements and potential appeals options.
• Prepare submissions to initiate and advance disability claims and related documents.
