Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps Member supports student success by coaching and mentoring elementary to high school students. You plan and monitor progress, assist teachers with in-class instruction, and help foster positive behaviors and attendance.

Offered as a paid full-time position with training and a bi-weekly living stipend, this role emphasizes hands-on impact in schools and teamwork with staff and teachers.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied learning activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily activities using proven learning strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school.
• Co-lead events or programs recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior.
