Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them earn academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors in school. You will plan and monitor student progress and work with teachers on whole class instruction and in-class student assistance.

Training is provided at the start of the year, with ongoing collaboration across partner teachers and staff. This entry-level, full-time role includes eligibility requirements for U.S.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (authorization to work in the U.S. required)
• Ages 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• GED or high school diploma, with some college or college degree acceptable
• No more than three AmeriCorps terms previously
• Willingness to complete a background check
• Available to start City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students to achieve academic success and improve attendance
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and collaborate with teachers
• Support classroom instruction and in-class student assistance
• Participate in 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to identified students
• Contribute to school-wide engagement through programs and events
