Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to improve academics, attendance, and behavior. You’ll plan and monitor progress, and partner with teachers on in-class support and small-group activities.

Entry-level, paid, full-time program with 2–4 weeks of training at the start, and opportunities for professional development, community impact, and growth within City Year and AmeriCorps.

Qualifications

• Be eligible for U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group coaching for identified students.
• Develop literacy and math activities tailored to student levels.
• Create and implement a behavior management system.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support extended day and after-school programs and events.
