Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to boost academic success, attendance, and positive school behaviors. You will plan and monitor progress, collaborating with teachers on in‑class and small-group instruction.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks), and you’ll partner with school staff throughout the year as you support students and families across literacy, math, and engagement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA status not eligible)
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Develop interpersonal skills throughout the day using proven strategies
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and monitor student progress
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with teachers
