Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve in public schools to coach and mentor students toward academic success, attendance improvement, and positive behavior. The role emphasizes planning and monitoring individual progress and supporting teachers in class activities.

The program provides initial training and ongoing collaboration with school staff, making a difference before, during, and after school hours.

Qualifications

• Mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to support academic growth.
• Help develop literacy and math skills with varied activities.
• Create and apply behavior management strategies for classroom progress.

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills throughout the day using proven learning strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers and team to collect, record, and monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space with the teacher.
