Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as entry‑level, full‑time staff focused on coaching and mentoring students in elementary to high school settings. You will support academic progress, attendance, and positive behaviors while partnering with teachers to plan targeted instruction.

Training is provided (2–4 weeks) at the start of the year, with ongoing collaboration and data tracking to monitor student outcomes. This role emphasizes service and community impact.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students individually and in small groups
• Support literacy and/or math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress in City Year data system
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space in collaboration with teachers
• Support extended day and virtual programs before, during, and after school
• Lead or co-lead events recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior

Education
