Job summary

Estes Express is seeking a Billing Clerk in California to handle high-volume phone calls, process OS&D paperwork, and prepare freight bills in a fast-paced logistics center. You will maintain accurate records, coordinate delivery times with customers, and support claims, pricing, and customer service.

The role requires a GED or high school diploma, proficiency in MS Word and Excel, and AS400 experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; equivalent background.
• Experience in billing, collections, tracing & OS&D preferred.
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
• AS400 experience strongly preferred.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Good clerical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills.
• Ability to work on regular tasks with occasional direction.
• Ability to solve problems with standard solutions.
• Transportation industry experience is a plus.
• Ability to lift ~20 lbs.
• Compliance with company policies and conduct.
• Able to interact well with others.
• Able to work independently or in a team.
• Capable of handling tight deadlines with multiple priorities.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedures.
• Pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Answer phones with high call volume and direct calls accurately.
• Maintain counts of items received or shipped and check against bill of lading.
• Prepare paperwork and repack OS&D freight.
• Maintain records reporting OS&D issues to management.
• Coordinate delivery times with customers.
• Identify bills requiring special delivery instructions.
• Respond to inquiries and provide proof of delivery.
• Handle complaints regarding billing or service.
• Investigate and resolve overages, shortages, damaged freight (incl. hazmat).
• Process claims, charges and tracing paperwork.
• Scan/image bill of lading receipts.
• Transfer data from BOL to billing format for freight movement.
• Prepare bills with tariffs and charges.
• Place shipments on-hand.
• Assist dispatch with customers and drivers.
• Regular attendance required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
