Job summary

Estes Express is seeking an OS&D Clerk in Effingham, IL to handle high-volume phone calls, billing, and freight documentation. You will verify bills of lading, coordinate customer delivery times, and maintain accurate OS&D records across daily operations.

The role requires strong clerical skills, MS Word/Excel proficiency, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. AS400 experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent background required.
• Experience in billing, collections, tracing & OS&D preferred.
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel; AS400 experience strongly preferred.
• Strong customer service and clerical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; good listening skills.
• Ability to handle regular tasks with occasional direction; escalate when needed.
• Experience in the transportation industry is a plus.
• Must be able to lift ~20 lbs. and comply with policy.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephones with a heavy call volume and direct calls accurately.
• Maintain count list of items received or shipped and verify against bill of lading; record discrepancies.
• Prepare paperwork and repack OS&D freight.
• Maintain records and report OS&D issues to management daily or weekly.
• Coordinate delivery times with customers for freight deliveries.
• Respond to inquiries about bill of lading and provide proof of delivery.
• Investigate and respond to billing or service complaints; refer to appropriate departments.
• Handle claims, charges, and tracing of freight; verify paperwork.
• Transfer information from bill of lading to billing format for freight movements.
• Prepare bills for freight movement with applicable tariffs and charges.
• Maintain a clean and organized OS&D area.
• Regular attendance required and able to work in high-volume environment.
