Job summary

Siemens Smart Buildings in Shoreview, MN invites motivated students for a Fire Alarm Systems Technician Internship. You’ll spend most of your time on job sites with seasoned technicians, learning installation, programming, and service of fire alarm and related systems in commercial buildings.

The program blends hands-on fieldwork with classroom instruction. Expect to rotate through service, project delivery, and sales exposure while developing hands-on troubleshooting and documentation skills

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or state-recognized GED.
• Students enrolled in or recently completed a 2-year technical college pursuing a relevant degree.
• Availability to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week program (May–August).
• Willing to work onsite with no relocation/housing stipend.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Comfortable in dynamic environments (rooftops, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, outdoors).
• Hands-on role using hand tools, laptops, tablets, and other tech to review programs.
• Physically able to lift and transport tools up to 75 pounds.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Windows-based laptops; quick to learn new software.
• Strong communication skills to document work and explain issues clearly.

Responsibilities

• Spend 80% on job sites with experienced technicians learning installation, programming, and service of Fire/HVAC control systems.
• 10% sales exposure to understand how solutions are designed for customers.
• 10% rotate through service operations to support installation and long-term maintenance.
• Visit customer sites with technicians to troubleshoot and assist in commissioning.
• Collaborate with engineering/project teams to resolve discrepancies in drawings.
• Document service activities and provide basic training for smooth hand-off to customers.
