Job summary

Smiths Detection, part of Smiths Group, seeks a Field Service Technician to troubleshoot, service, install and repair Trace, X-Ray, CT X-Ray and Cargo Inspection equipment at customer sites around the Washington DC area.

Daily travel to locations near Reagan National Airport is required. The role emphasizes customer satisfaction, timely maintenance, and accurate reporting while maintaining technical certifications and inventory control.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree/Related Trade Certification (electrical, electronic, mechanical)/Military Training (electrical, mechanical, electronics). Equivalence through 1–3 years related field service experience acceptable.
• Minimum of 1–3 years experience directly involved in troubleshooting and field repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
• Excellent communications skills with strong customer focus and teamwork; willing & able to travel at short notice.

Responsibilities

• Meet daily service repair needs and drive customer satisfaction.
• Foster positive customer relations and communicate effectively with customers.
• Install, repair and maintain equipment in the field; provide customer training as required.
• Respond to emergency and non-scheduled service calls within established response times.
• Document inspections, maintenance, and repairs; submit paperwork promptly.
• Order, install, and return parts; manage repair parts cycle time.
