Job summary

Smiths Detection in the Washington DC area seeks a Field Service Technician to service Trace, X-Ray and Cargo Inspection equipment at customer sites, including travel to airports and near locations. You will troubleshoot, install and repair equipment, provide customer training, and maintain field service files.

The role requires strong customer focus, excellent communication, and the ability to travel on short notice.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree/Related Trade Certification (electrical, electronic, mechanical)/Military Training.
• 1–3 years experience in troubleshooting and field repair of electrical/electronic systems.
• Strong communication skills and customer-focused mindset.
• Willingness to travel on short notice and work in various sites.

Responsibilities

• Meet daily service repair needs and drive customer satisfaction.
• Install, repair and maintain equipment at customer sites; provide training as required.
• Respond to emergency and non-scheduled service calls within established response times.
• Document inspections, maintenance and repairs; manage parts & supplies inventory.
• Maintain currency on technical certifications; support service sales opportunities.
