Job summary

Montana Instruments Co. is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support customers in installation, maintenance, and repair, primarily on-site with remote follow-up. The role requires up to 75% travel, both domestic and international, and close collaboration with sales and engineering to ensure customer success.

Hybrid/remote-friendly arrangement available; bachelor’s in engineering or equivalent tech experience preferred, with strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technician experience with travel.
• 1-3 years in a technical service role involving on-site visits.
• Experience with electronics, software, mechanical, and firmware; cryogenics a plus.
• Ability to read schematics and understand heat transfer concepts.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve customer problems via on-site visits and remote communications.
• Travel to customer sites for installation, maintenance, and training (50-75% travel).
• Prepare service reports and pass information to operations and engineering.
• Issue RMAs and coordinate with Sales, Production, and Shipping to close service work.
• Provide feedback for quality improvements and participate in NPI discussions.
• Promote service capabilities during customer visits with Inside Sales.
