Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Field Mechanical Engineer - Assembly to co-own the SPARC assembly process in Devens, MA. You will guide technicians, secure necessary tools, and collaborate with adjacent teams to implement process changes and maintain momentum during multi-million pound assemblies.

You will oversee installation of manifolds and motorized components, resolve assembly challenges, and ensure repeatable tooling for production.

Qualifications

• 5 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or field assembly.
• 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience with project ownership.
• 2+ years overseeing an active construction/manufacturing/assembly process.
• 2+ years' experience using CAD software.

Responsibilities

• Own and guide the assembly sequence for workstation areas, ensuring smooth progress.
• Define work scope and install manifolds and magnet sub-assemblies.
• Resolve assembly issues in collaboration with design teams to meet requirements.
• Procure or build tools and fixtures for upcoming process steps.
• Serve as process owner, testing and handing off for repeatable production use.
• Provide design feedback to SPARC sub-systems focused on manufacturability.
• Address non-conformances and implement redline changes into sequences.
• Support hands-on Tokamak Assembly operations across duties.
• Collaborate with teammates to meet high-load, vacuum, and complex assembly needs.
