Job summary

Stantec seeks an Environmental Compliance Field Team Leader to provide technical leadership and on-site oversight for environmental monitoring on active construction projects. You’ll manage inspections, documentation, and communication of environmental requirements to project teams, clients, and contractors.

The role combines hands-on fieldwork with supervisory duties, risk assessment, and coordination with regulatory requirements across multiple sites with substantial travel.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and permits applicable to construction activities (stormwater, wetlands, habitat).
• Experience leading or supervising field staff on infrastructure projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with contractors, clients, and regulators.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead environmental compliance monitor onsite, possibly embedded with a client team.
• Conduct inspections for stormwater, erosion, wetlands, and other regulated resources.
• Ensure compliance with SPCC plans, air quality permits, noise and other permit conditions.
• Provide mentoring, quality control, and possibly direct supervision of monitors and junior staff.
• Interpret permit conditions; coordinate with experts to satisfy obligations.
• Identify risks and coordinate mitigation with construction teams.
• Review observations to align with permits and project requirements.
• Support pre-construction compliance planning and turnover to operations.
• Assist with scheduling and staffing with the Resource Team Leader.
• Establish site mapping and paperless documentation protocols.
• Prepare inspection reports and submittals to clients/regulators.
• Serve as primary field contact for environmental requirements on projects.
• Promote HSSE compliance and safety stop-work authority.
