Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to perform handheld scans for rebar mats, embeds, and various structural components before pours and during maintenance. You will process data, generate meshes and CAD-ready files, and deliver reports to clients.

Responsibilities include field scanning on active construction sites, verifying data completeness, and producing accurate deviation maps and reports in coordination with project teams.

Qualifications

• Experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; bring examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup and registration.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record and willingness to travel.
• Certifications such as ACI, ICC are a plus and sponsor available.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of structures and embeds before concrete placement and other components.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, safety with superintendents and plant contacts; travel to regional hubs as assigned.
• Keep scanner, batteries, and calibration records organized.
