Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners, process scans, and deliver scan-to-CAD data for construction projects. You will scan rebar mats, embeds, corroded pipes, and machine parts on active sites, validate data on site, and produce reports and meshes in collaboration with the engineering team.

You will work at client sites and our regional hubs, with travel required and sponsorship for certifications.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld structured-light or laser scanners (Artec Leo/Eva/Space Spider; Creaform HandySCAN; FARO; or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, export.
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, Revit) and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable record.
• Able to travel and fly with equipment as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting is a plus.
• ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications are a plus — sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and for damaged structures.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD formats.
• Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody for forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
