Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on diverse site projects—from rebar mats to corroded pipes and machine parts. You will capture data on site, process it in Artec Studio, and deliver scan-to-CAD files and reports that clients can act on.

The role requires hands-on scanning experience, CAD reading skills, safety on active sites, and willingness to travel to regional hubs.

Qualifications

Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; provide examples.
Working knowledge of Artec Studio or similar software; able to clean meshes and register scans.
Familiarity with CAD drawings and reading structural or fabrication drawings.
Comfortable on active construction sites and industrial plants; able to carry equipment.
Valid driver's license with acceptable record and travel ability to regional hubs.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and for damaged structures.
Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export formats.
Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and coordinate reports against drawings.
Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensics matters.
Coordinate access, permits, safety, and travel with superintendents and plant contacts.
Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
