Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on diverse field projects, verify captures on site, and deliver ready-to-use meshes and reports.

You will process data in Artec Studio, export CAD-friendly formats, build scan-to-CAD solids, and contribute to workflow improvements while traveling to regional hubs and on-site locations as required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider; Creaform HandySCAN; FARO; or equivalent) on real projects — bring examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, or Revit) and with reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and travel with gear.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, and machine parts.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlap; verify capture completeness on site.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for the modeling team.
