Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider) on concrete and industrial projects across the Gulf Coast region. You will capture data on site, process in Artec Studio, and deliver meshes and CAD-ready files for client use.

You will work on site, coordinate with superintendents, and travel to regional hubs as needed. Training and advancement opportunities are available, with a path from technician to lead

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner (Artec Leo, Eva, or Space Spider; Creaform HandySCAN; FARO; or equivalent) on real projects — bring examples;
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export;
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, or Revit) and with reading structural or fabrication drawings;
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors;
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable record;
• Able to travel and fly with equipment as assigned;
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting a plus;
• ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications a plus — we sponsor them.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipe and tanks, fabricated steel and precast, machine parts, and modular units.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features, tape-measure backbones, and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
• Every one of those jobs ends the same way: data checked on site, processed in Artec Studio, and delivered in a format the client opens without calling us.
