Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners (Artec Leo or similar) on concrete, steel, and plant sites across the Gulf Coast region. You capture data on site, verify it, and deliver meshes, point clouds, and scan-to-CAD outputs.

You will advance from scanning to lead technician roles; company sponsors certifications and travel; pay ranges from $26 to $40 per hour. Must be able to lift equipment, work outdoors, and travel to regional hubs.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld scanners on real projects.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable software.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading drawings.
• Able to work on active construction sites and lift equipment.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.
• Willingness to travel.
• Certifications (ACI, NICET, ICC) a plus and sponsorable by company.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, and anchor bolt reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks.
• Document capture procedure and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
