Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained 3D scanning technician to operate handheld Artec scanners on concrete, rebar, and industrial components. You’ll capture data on site, process in Artec Studio, and deliver meshes, reports, and scan-to-CAD files for clients.

You will plan scans before pours, control drift, verify data completeness, and generate deviation maps and coordinate reports against drawings. Occasional travel to regional hubs is required.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects.
• Familiarity with Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software.
• Reading structural or fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record.
• Ability to travel and fly with equipment as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement, failed and damaged structures, corroded pipes and tanks.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinate reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
