Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a 3D scanning technician to operate handheld scanners on varied project sites, validate data on site, and deliver processed files for CAD integration.

You will process data with Artec Studio, generate reports, and support reverse-engineering tasks across construction and plant environments. Travel to regional hubs is expected, with overtime during pours.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; provide examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup and registration.
• Familiarity with reading CAD drawings and fabrication plans.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and able to carry equipment; outdoor work.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record.
• Able to travel and fly with equipment as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting is a plus.
• ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications a plus; sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld scans of rebar embeds, structures, pipes, and machine parts.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlap zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture; export to STL/OBJ/E57/CAD.
• Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, and anchor bolt reports.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering; hand-clean meshes as needed.
• Document capture procedures, equipment settings, and chain of custody.
• Coordinate access, permits, safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
