Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a 3D scanning technician to perform handheld scans and deliver accurate data for owners and engineers. You will capture rebar, embeds, and damaged components on active sites, then process data in Artec Studio and export usable CAD-ready formats.

The role requires hands-on scanner experience, CAD-reading ability, and a willingness to travel to regional hubs. We offer training and a clear progression path within the growing scanning service line.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects; bring examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, export.
• Familiarity with CAD reading and structural/fabrication drawings; travel and site work ok.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar, embeds, and structures before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects using reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving the location.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture; export to STL, OBJ, E57, and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation color maps, reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt coordinates; compare to drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering or fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for modelling.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody; maintain equipment records.
• Coordinate access, permits, safety with superintendents and plant contacts; travel to regional hubs as assigned.
