Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a trained-operator 3D scanning technician to capture data on-site with handheld scanners (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider) and deliver meshes, reports, and scan-to-CAD files the client can act on.

You will plan scans, verify capture completeness, process in Artec Studio, and coordinate access and safety while traveling to regional hubs. Pay ranges $26–$40 per hour; overtime on big pours; Sugar Land HQ for dispatches.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a handheld structured-light or laser scanner on real projects (Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider; Creaform HandySCAN; FARO).
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or comparable scan-processing software; mesh cleanup, registration, and export.
• Familiarity with CAD and reading structural/fabrication drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites and in industrial plants; able to carry equipment, climb, and work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record; able to travel and fly with equipment as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD or metrology reporting is a plus; certifications a plus (ACI, ICC).

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement and for damaged structures.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export to STL/OBJ/E57 and CAD formats.
• Produce deviation maps, measurement reports, crack maps, and anchor bolt reports against drawings or CAD.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks; hand-clean meshes for modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain-of-custody on forensic matters.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
